Kuching, Sarawak - Premier Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg has unveiled plans for Sarawak to become a prominent hydrogen hub by the year 2027.
“Perhaps one day Sarawak will emerge as a supplier of green energy for the entire region, and this hinges on the technology we employ in hydrogen production,” he remarked.
"Perhaps one day Sarawak will stand as a provider of green energy for the entire region, contingent upon the technology we harness in hydrogen production," he emphasized.
Currently, Sarawak has confirmed partnerships with stakeholders from two countries, Japan and Korea.
"As we ramp up our production, inevitably, other nations will need to embrace green energy," he asserted.
With Sarawak positioned on a promising trajectory, the state is fostering collaborations with energy industry players such as Gentari from Japan and Korea.
According to him, Sarawak is poised to become an exporter of renewable energy, particularly hydrogen, to these nations, thereby bolstering Sarawak's Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
"I have shared the abundant resources available in Sarawak; by combining these resources with cutting-edge technology, Sarawak's potential is vast, particularly in the context of Malaysia's Energy Transition (NETR)," he said to the media following the inauguration of the Borneo Energy Transition Conference.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the Sarawak government will enlist experts to conduct research and assess the growth of renewable energy sources in the state, taking into account the nation's economic development.
Present at the event were Sarawak's Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Prof Dr. Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak, Datuk Dr. Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, Deputy Minister of Energy and Environment Sustainability, Datuk Dr. Hazland Abang Hipni, Chief Executive Officer of Malaysian Rating Corporation Berhad (MARC) Datuk Jamaludin Nasir, Chairman of SEDC, Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr) Abdul Aziz Dato Hussain, and Chief Executive Officer of Petronas Group, Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Kamadjaja Aziz.
